An Application of Multivariate Classification Techniques for Assessing the Business Enviroment of Selected European Union Regions

Abstract:

Disertační práce řeší problematiku hodnocení podnikatelského prostředí vybraných regionů Evropské unie užitím mnohorozměrných klasifikačních metod. Pomocí faktorové analýzy byly zkonstruovány empirické faktory podnikatelského prostředí (faktor kvality pracovních sil a inovací, faktor demografického vývoje, faktor trhu práce a faktor ekonomické výkonnosti), pomocí kterých jsou regiony na základě výsledků shlukové analýzy klasifikovány do skupin regionů s rozdílnými regionálními disparitami. Nástroje regionální politiky jako součásti hospodářské politiky sloužící k eliminaci takto vzniklých disparit jsou v textu teoreticky vymezeny a na příkladech vytvořených skupin regionů je popsáno i jejich použití v praktické regionální politice Evropské unie.

Abstract:

The Doctoral Thesis is focused on the application of multivariate classification techniques for assessing the business environment of selected European Union regions. In accordance with a character of used data author has chosen the factor analysis and the cluster analysis for a creation of classification. As an input for the practical analysis data sets were selected which describe regional business environment of the European Union. Four indicators of business environment (the indicator of quality of labour forces and innovations, the indicator of demographic development, the indicator of labour market and the indicator of economic activity) were created by the results of a factor analysis. The results of analysis are groups of regions with territorial disparities across the EU. Possibilities of the Regional Policy of the European Union to remove economic, social and territorial disparities are discussed in the theoretical part of the doctoral thesis in accordance with the results of regional classification.
