An Analysis of Georgia-Abkhazia Conflict

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je analýza gruzínsko-abcházského konfliktu, který eskaloval v roce 1992 a trval do prosince 1994, kdy byla podepsána Deklarace o opatřeních k politickému urovnání gruzínsko-abcházského konfliktu. Etnický a teritoriální spor mezi Abcházci, kteří vyhlásili samostatnost bývalé autonomní republiky Abcházie, a Gruzínci, kteří povaţují Abcházii za součást Gruzie dosud nebyl vyřešen, byl jen zmraţen a na území Abcházie byly vyslány mírové pozorovatelské jednotky OSN a Společenství nezávislých států.Cílem práce je analyzovat vývoj gruzínsko-abcházského konfliktu z pohledu teorie řešení konfliktů. Konkrétně bude na daný konflikt aplikován konfliktní cyklus a v rámci jeho jednotlivých fází budou určeni jeho hlavní aktéři a příčiny. Ve fázi manifestace a eskalace bude prozkoumána role jednotlivých stran a také zapojení dalších zemí (zejména Ruska) a subjektů, které ovlivnily průběh konfliktu. Práce rovněţ objasní roli mezinárodních misí OSN a SNS a zhodnotí jejich efektivitu v rámci řešení konfliktu.Hlavní metodou práce bude případová studie, obsahová analýza vybraných dokumentů a komparace.

Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor thesis is an analysis of Georgia-Abkhazia conflict, which escalated in the year 1992 and lasted until December 1994, when "The Declaration about Measures to Political Adjustment of Georgia-Abkhazia Conflict“ was adopted. Ethnic and territorial feud between Abkhazians, who have proclaimed the independence of the former autonomous republic of Abkhazia, and the Georgians, that believe that Abkhazia is part of Georgia, haven't been solved yet. The conflict has been only freezed and neutral peacekeeping observer troops of the United Nations Organisation and the Commonwealth of Independent States were sent to the territory of Abkhazia.The aim of the work is to analyze the development of the Georgia-Abkhazia confict in the ways of conflict resolution theory. In concrete, I will apply the conflict cycle, and in the terms of its phases I will explain the problem about the main participants and causes. The thesis will clarify the role of the international missions of the UNO and as well of CIS, and will evaluate their effectivity in the terms of conflict resolution.The main method of this thesis will be the case study, other methods will be the content analysis of documents and comparation.
