Identity formation and its impact on behaviour in relation to personality traits egoism - altruism

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo nalézt odpovědi na otázky týkající se vztahu mezi konstruktem identity a charakterovými vlastnostmi reprezentovanými pojmy egoismus, nepotismus a altruismus. Teoretická část je zaměřena na výskyt egoistických a altruistických projevů ve vývoji člověka a jeho charakteru, na popis jednotlivých stylů identity a na vyjádření předpokládaných souvislostí mezi nimi a osobnostními charakteristikami. Jsou zde také integrovány základní psychologické a etologické poznatky o výše uvedených charakterových vlastnostech, na jejichž základě byl vysloven předpoklad o míře jejich determinace a vlivu na sociální chování osobnosti ve vztahu k výchově, jako produktu procesu socializace. Praktická část práce je zaměřena na samotné ověření těsnosti vztahu mezi jednotlivými kognitivními styly a aspekty identity a charakterovými vlastnostmi altruismus - egoismus. Výsledkem výzkumného projektu je zjištění, že u vybraného vzorku respondentů se nepodařilo prokázat statisticky významný vztah mezi jednotlivými aspekty a styly identity a charakterovými rysy altruismus - egoismus, jehož potvrzení by umožnilo (na základě poznání konkrétního stylu nebo aspektu identity) predikovat charakter budoucího sociálního projevu jedince, tj. egoismus x altruismus. Závěr práce vede k zamyšlení nad důvody nepotvrzení tohoto předpokládaného vztahu, kde jako nejpravděpodobnější příčina se jeví nesprávná alternativní hypotéza, nebo-li přecenění významu osobnostních charakteristik v interpersonálním jednání a podcenění významu vlivu situačních proměnných.

Abstract:

The aim of this work was to find the answers to the questions regarding the relationship between the identity construct and the personality traits represented by the terms egoism, nepotism and altruism. The theoretical part focuses on egoistic and altruistic demonstrations in an individual’s personality development, description of individual identity styles and the expression of assumed connections between them and the personality traits. The basic psychological and ethological findings about above mentioned personality traits are also integrated and based on them the assumption of the level of their determination and influence on social behaviour in relation to education, as a product of socializing process, is presented. The practical part focuses on testing the relation tightness between the cognitive styles and identity aspects and altruism – egoism personality traits. The results present that the statistically significant relation between the individual aspects and the identity styles and altruism – egoism personality traits were not proved in the research sample. The proof would allow (based on the individual style or identity aspect identification) prediction of future social behaviour of an individual, i.e. egoism vs. altruism. The final part presents the possible reasons of the results, where the most presumable reason could be the incorrect alternative hypothesis or overestimation of personality traits significance in interpersonal behaviour and underestimation of the situational variables importance.
