Abstract:

V posledních několika desetiletích získaly metody geografických informačních systémů (GIS) obecnější využití v různých vědních oborech a počet studií, které tyto metody používají v rámci humanitních věd, také neustále roste. Jednou z oblastí, kde se GIS postupně přizpůsobuje, je obor historických studií. Cílem této práce je představit možnosti a výzvy, které stojí před aplikací GIS v rámci studia dějin. Studie je rozdělena na dvě části - teoretickou a praktickou. První představuje téma popisováním přístupů ke zpracování dat, metod a výstupů. Druhá část obsahuje soubor publikovaných příspěvků, které ukazují způsob, jak zacházet s prezentovanou metodologií a přístupy. Průnik mezi GIS a historickou studií představuje zajímavý způsob, jak lépe porozumět historickým jevům, klást nové otázky, odpovědět na stávající problémy a přinést nové poznatky do studia lidské minulosti.

Abstract:

In the last few decades, the methods of geographic information systems (GIS) have acquired a more generalized usage in various scientific fields and the number of studies that apply these methods within humanities is also steadily growing. One of the areas, where GIS is gradually adapting, is the field of historical studies. The goal of this thesis is to present the possibilities and challenges that stand before the application of GIS within the study of history. The study is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The first introduces the topic by describing approaches to handling data, methods, and outputs. The second half contains a set of published papers that demonstrate a way to handle presented methodology and approaches. The intersection between GIS and historical study presents an interesting way to better understand historical phenomena, pose new questions, answer existing problems and bring new knowledge in the study of the human past.
