COMPARISON OF APPROACHES TOWARDS PHILANTHROPY IN CZECH REPUBLIC AND IN HONG KONG

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na specifickou oblast spolupráce soukromého sektoru s neziskovou sférou. -- firemní dárcovství. To je mechanismem, kterým firmy přispívají veřejně prospěšným účelům. Nejčastěji se realizuje tak, že podnik daruje neziskovým organizacím finanční prostředky, výrobky nebo služby. Takto se firmy v roli sociálního investora podílejí na uspokojování potřeb a zájmů společnosti. Cílem této diplomové práce je zaprvé seznámit s problematikou firemní filantropie v teoretické rovině a následně prakticky popsat její fungování ve dvou naprosto rozdílných oblastech -- v České republice a v Hong Kongu. K analýze filantropie v těchto oblastech byla použita empirická data z výzkumů, které se v těchto regionech konaly. Výsledky této analýzy obou oblastí pak byly srovnány a byly identifikovány jak místní charakteristiky tak i silné a slabé body v každém regionu. V čem se filantropie v obou zemích podobá a v čem naopak liší? Hong Kong je společnost s delší kapitalistickou tradicí než je ta v ČR a je také regionálním centrem pro mnohé velké západní mezinárodní společnosti, které se již tradičně angažují ve filantropii. Je tedy tato země s kulturou své firemní filantropie daleko před námi a může se tuzemské dárcovství od Hong Kongu něčemu přiučit? Na základě srovnání je možné hledat inspiraci, možná rizika a řešení. Diplomová práce byla zpracována za použití odborné literatury, která se váže k problematice filantropie jako specifického přístupu firem ke společnosti. Dalším zdrojem byly materiály a studie pojednávající o přístupech podniků k samotné firemní filantropii. Bohužel vzhledem k tomu, že filantropie je v Česku relativně novým fenoménem, neexistuje velké množství odborných publikací, ze kterých by bylo možno čerpat, a proto se při zpracování této práce stal nezastupitelným zdrojem informací internet. Z institucí je třeba zmínit především Fórum dárců -- občanské sdružení zastřešující dárce v ČR, jehož posláním je celková podpora filantropie.

Abstract:

This work concentrates on a specific area of cooperation between the profit and non-profit sectors -- the corporate philanthropy. That is a mechanism of corporate contribution to community causes. It is usually carried out in the form of financial, product or service donation. In this manner, the corporations in the role of a social investors participate on the satisfaction of needs, concerns and interests of community. The goal of this work is first to introduce the issue of corporate philanthropy on the theoretical level and next to describe the local philanthropic practices in two very different cultures -- in the Czech Republic and in Hong Kong. The data from researches carried out in these two countries were used for the analyses of the state of local philanthropy. The results of such analyses were then compared and the local characteristics as well as weak and strong points in the respective regions were identified. In what respects is the philanthropy in both countries similar and where does is it differ? Hong Kong is a country of long capitalistic tradition and is also a regional center for many multinational companies, which traditionally engage in these activities. Is this country with its culture of corporate philanthropy ahead of us and is there something we can learn from Hong Kong? Based on this comparison we can search for inspiration, possible risks and solutions. This work was elaborated using specialized bibliography focusing on the matter of corporate philanthropy. An invaluable source of information proved to be internet, mainly because philanthropy is a relatively new phenomenon in Czech Republic and there is not a large number of monographies concerning this topic. Lastly materials and works from various foundations, mainly the Czech Donors Forum, were utilized.
