Two perspectives of the Interpretation of the Past in the Work of Boualem Sansal

Abstract:

This thesis deals with two examples of the interpretation of the past, specifically in the work of contemporary Algerian author Boualem Sansal titled German's Village, with the subtitle the Journal of Schiller brothers. In the beginning, the last "dark decade" of the Algerian history in the 20th century as well as the life of the author himself and topics in his books are presented in order to situate the consecutive analysis into larger context. The analysis is taking place on two interconnected levels: formal (structure, naratology) and contentual (interpretation of the past). The aim of the work is to present and to analyse approaches of two brothers not only to their family history, but mainly to the history in general.

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá dvěma příklady interpretace minulosti, konkrétně v díle současného alžírského autora Boualema Sansala s názvem Němcova vesnice, nebo-li deník bratří Schillerů. Na úvod práce je představeno poslední "temné desetiletí" alžírské historie ve 20. století a život samotného autora i s tématy jeho knih, aby byla následná analýza díla zasazena v širším kontextu. Rozbor se odehrává na dvou propojených úrovních: formální (struktura, naratologie) a obsahová (interpretace minulosti). Cílem práce je představit a analyzovat přístupy dvou bratrů nejen vůči rodinné minulosti, ale především vůči historii obecně.
