The Role of Public Diplomacy in the Foreign Policy of Norway

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, jakou roli hraje veřejná diplomacie v norské zahraniční politice. Zároveň si klade za cíl odpovědět, zda veřejná diplomacie zaujímá v norské zahraniční politice specifické postavení. První kapitola vysvětluje pojem veřejné diplomacie, její vývoj, charakteristiku i dimenze, na něž je rozdělena. Rovněž se zabývá koncepty, jež jsou s veřejnou diplomacií spojeny. Druhá kapitola aplikuje znalosti z první kapitoly na praktický proces norské zahraniční politiky a veřejné diplomacie. Analyzuje priority norské zahraniční politiky a strategii norské veřejné diplomacie. Třetí kapitola se pak již konkrétně zabývá prezentací Norska jako humanitární supervelmocí. Detailně se zaobírá jeho angažovaností v humanitárních misích a budováním si pověsti na mezinárodní scéně.

Abstract:

The goal of this Bachelor´s thesis is to explore the role of public diplomacy within the greater context of Norwegian foreign policy. This thesis also sets the goal of observing if public diplomacy plays a specific role within Norwegian foreign policy. The first chapter explains what public diplomacy is, its evolution and characteristics, as well as the many dimensions that it has. This chapter also concerns itself with the concepts that are most strongly connected to public diplomacy. The second chapter applies the gained knowledge from chapter one towards the practical process of Norwegian foreign policy and public diplomacy and analyses the priorities of Norwegian foreign policy and strategies Norwegian public diplomacy. The third and final chapter presents Norway´s strategies and policies as a humanitarian superpower. It details Norway´s role in humanitarian missions around the globe and how Norway has succeded in building a strong and powerful reputation as a humanitarian superpower on the global stage.
