The influence of the price of a pack of cigarettes on the consumption of a smoker in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá faktory, které mají vliv na spotřebu cigaret. Zaměřuje se především na cenu, jako možný prostředek k omezení spotřeby kuřáka. Práce zkoumá, od jaké výše ceny krabičky cigaret začne kuřák měnit své spotřebitelské chování směrem k omezování spotřeby cigaret a jakým způsobem by svoji spotřebu cigaret kuřák omezil. Dále bylo zkoumáno, zda spotřeba cigaret závisí na ceně krabičky cigaret, věku, vzdělání a příjmu kuřáka. K naplnění cílů práce bylo provedeno dotazníkové šetření na kuřácích v České republice starších 18 let. Získána data byla vyhodnocena pomocí statistických testů. Data ukázala, že cena krabičky cigaret, která by vedla kuřáky k omezení spotřeby, by se s 95% spolehlivostí pohybovala mezi 193 až 236 Kč. Pokud by se cena zvýšila na tuto částku, omezilo by trvale svoji spotřebu cigaret 31,7 % kuřáků

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis follows up the factors affecting the consumption of cigarettes. The main focus is on the price as a possible instrument of reducing the consumption of the smoker. The thesis examines a price of a cigarette pack, which will start to change smoker's behavior towards reducing its cigarette consumption and how he would reduce his cigarette consumption. It was further examined whether the consumption of cigarettes depends on the price of a cigarette pack, age, education and income. A questionnaire survey was conducted on smokers in the Czech Republic, older than eighteen years, to fulfil the aims of the thesis. The data obtained were evaluated using statistical tests. Data showed, that the price of a cigarette pack, that would lead smokers to reduce their consumption, would be between 196 to 236 CZK with 95% confidence. If the price would increase to that amount, 31.7% of smokers would permanently reduce their cigarette consumption.
