Stigma through the eyes of adults with ADHD

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce s názvem Stigma očima dospělých s ADHD se zaměřuje na stigma, s kterým se dospělí s ADHD setkávali. Cílem mého výzkumu bylo objasnit, jak dospělí s ADHD vnímali stigma od učitelů, vrstevníku a rodiny ve svém dětství. Také jsem chtěla popsat jejich konkrétní pocity, které v nich stigma vyvolávalo a co jim pomáhalo se s tím vypořádat. Výsledky ukazují, že jedinci na stigma v jejich dětství nahlížejí negativně a jako největší problém vnímají nežádoucí dopad na jejich sebepojetí. V takových chvílích jim nejvíce pomáhala rodina, terapie či zájmové kroužky.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis titled Stigma through the eyes of adults with ADHD is focusing on stigma which adults with ADHD have experienced. The aim of my research was to clarify how adults with ADHD perceived stigma from their teachers, peers and relatives in their childhood. I also wanted to describe their authentic feelings which were caused by the stigma, and what helped them to deal with it. The results show that respondents are now looking at the stigma in their childhood in a negative way. As the biggest issue is seen the unsought impact it had on their self-concept. In those moments they find their family, therapies and hobbies most helpful.
