Approach of Turkey to the significant conflicts in the Middle East after 2000: a comparison of case studies of Arab-Israeli conflict, the Arab spring and war in Iraq

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je analyzovat přístup Turecka k významným blízkovýchodním konfliktům po roce 2000, který můžeme považovat za klíčový, neboť po něm proběhlo mnoho významných událostí a to nejen na Blízkém Východě. Práce je komparací případových studií přístupu Turecka k arabsko-izraelskému konfliktu, válce v Iráku a arabskému jaru. Přístup Turecka k těmto událostem pramení z jeho historické zkušenosti s danou zemí a je ovlivněn povahou konfliktu a jeho dopadem na turecké zájmy. Práce je proto doplněna o rámcové seznámení s konfliktem a vzájemné vztahy a zkušenosti Turecka s danou zemí, které tomuto konfliktu předcházely. Hlavní část práce se týká analýzy přístupu Turecka k významným konfliktům na Blízkém Východě. V závěru práce je provedena komparace případových studií, na jejímž základě jsou zhodnoceny výzkumné otázky a je potvrzena či vyvrácena předložená hypotéza.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze approach of Turkey towards significant conflicts in the Middle East after 2000. The year 2000 was a breakthrough. Since then many key events has happened not only in the Middle East. This thesis will be comparison of case studies of Arab-Israeli conflict, the Arab spring (focused on Syria) and war in Iraq. Approach of Turkey to these conflicts is determined by historic experience of Turkey with these countries. This approach also reflects character of conflict and its impact on turkish concerns. That’s why this bachelor thesis will be completed by outline of conflict and relations between Turkey and these countries before that conflict. The main part will focus on analysis of approach of Turkey to these middle east conflicts. In conclusion there will be a compariosn of case studies, which will serve to answer research questions and confirm or disprove hypothesis.
