Cooperation between South Korean universities and the private sector in the area of entrepreneurship

Abstract:

Korejská republika je předním zástupcem ekonomik založených na znalostech a inovacích a pravidelně se umisťuje na prvních příčkách v oblasti výzkumu a vývoje. V posledních letech je celosvětově populární téma spolupráce univerzit a soukromého sektoru, jelikož má potenciál přispět k národnímu rozvoji. Jihokorejská vláda si je toho vědoma a dlouhodobě se zaměřuje na vládní politiky podporující spolupráci vysokých škol a firem a inovační potenciál akademického prostředí. Cílem této diplomové práce je zmapovat aktuální trendy spolupráce univerzit a soukromého sektoru v Jižní Koreji a zhodnotit její silné a slabé stránky. Vedlejším cílem práce je zjistit, za jakých podmínek je možné přenést příklady úspěšné praxe z Jižní Korey do jiných zemí, zejména do evropského či českého prostředí. V první kapitole diplomové práce je představen teoretický základ práce, včetně rešerše literatury zaměřené na spolupráci univerzit a firem ve světě i v Jižní Koreji. Druhá kapitola zpracovává světové trendy a výhody a nevýhody spolupráce firem a univerzit a blíže se věnuje tématu akademické podnikavosti. Následující kapitola je zaměřena na jihokorejský vzdělávací systém a praktické příklady spolupráce z jihokorejského prostředí ve srovnání s praxí z Velké Británie. Závěrečná kapitola prostřednictvím SWOT analýzy identifikuje slabé a silné stránky spolupráce jihokorejských univerzit a firem a také externí příležitosti a hrozby. V rámci poslední kapitoly je zpracována podkapitola zabývající se přenosem jihokorejské dobré praxe do prostředí českého vysokého školství.

Abstract:

The Republic of Korea is a leading representative of knowledge-based and innovation-driven economies and regularly ranks among the top in terms of research and development activities. In recent years, university-private sector collaboration has been a popular topic globally as it has the potential to contribute to national development. The South Korean government is aware of this and has long focused on government policies to promote university-business cooperation and the innovation potential of academia. This thesis aims to map the current trends of university-private sector collaboration in South Korea and assess its strengths and weaknesses. A secondary objective of the thesis is to determine under which conditions it is possible to transfer examples of successful practice from South Korea to other countries, especially to the European or Czech environment. The first chapter of the thesis presents the theoretical basis of the thesis, including a literature review on university-business cooperation in the world and in South Korea. The second chapter elaborates on global trends and the advantages and disadvantages of cooperation and takes a closer look at the topic of academic entrepreneurship. The following chapter focuses on the South Korean education system and practical examples of collaboration from the South Korean environment compared with practice from the UK. The final chapter identifies the weaknesses and strengths of South Korean university-business cooperation as well as external opportunities and threats through a SWOT analysis. The last chapter includes a subchapter dealing with the transfer of South Korean good practices to the Czech higher education environment.
