Study of factors influencing determination of energy intake and expenditure in horses

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá stanovením energie obsažené v krmné dávce koní a zhodnocením, zda je přísun energie dostečný s ohledem na záchovnou potřebu (ZPE) a jejich pracovní vytížení. Výzkum probíhal po dobu 28 dní u 6 koní teplokrevných plemen – 5 klisen a 1 valach s průměrnou hmotností 561,5 ± 36,6 kg a BCS (Body Conditional Scoring) stupněm 5 až 6. Kontrolní vážení bylo srovnáno se stanovením hmotnosti koní výpočtem z tělesných měr. Odhadovaná hmotnost stanovená výpočtem se zdá být podle výsledků v průměru podhodnocena o 58,05 ± 15,69 kg. Na základě zjištění živé hmotnosti vážením bylo posouzeno 5 norem pro stanovení záchovné potřeby energie (ZPE). Průměrná ZPE koní je 73,2 MJ ± 4,42 MJ, tj. 130 kJ/kg živé hmotnosti. Pro výpočet energetického výdeje během fyzické zátěže bylo užito 5 norem s využitím dat získaných z přístroje Polar Equine RC3 GPS (srdeční tep, vzdálenost, rychlost, čas). Navýšení potřeby energie na fyzickou zátěž (SE) u jednotlivých koní se podle zjištěných výsledků v závislosti na normě pohybovalo od 7,30 ± 2,34 MJ/den do 20,05 ± 3,17 MJ/den. Koně v krmné dávce průměrně přijali 102,64 ± 7,94 MJ stravitelné energie (SE) na den. V konečném srovnání vychází, pro stanovení denní potřeby stravitelné energie z krmné dávky, jako nejvhodnější spojení norem Zemana et al (2005) pro stanovení záchovné potřeby energie a stanovení potřeby SE na na fyzickou zátěž podle Harrise (2001).

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the determination of the energy contained in the feed ration of horses and the evaluation of whether the energy supply is sufficient in regard to the maintenance energy requirements and their workload. The research was conducted for 28 days in 6 horses of warm-blooded breeds - 5 mares and 1 gelding with an average weight of 561.5 ± 36.6 kg and BCS (Body Conditional Scoring) grade 5 to 6. Control weighing was compared with the formula that uses body measurements to calculate horse weight. The estimated weight determined by the calculation seems to be underestimated by an average of 58.05 ± 15.69 kg. Based on the determination of weight by weighing, 5 formulas for determining maintenance energy were assessed. The average maintenance energy of horses is 73.2 MJ ± 4.42 MJ, i. e. 130 kJ/kg in weight. To calculate energy expenditure during physical exercise, 5 formulas were used using data obtained from the Polar Equine RC3 GPS device (heart rate, distance, speed, time). According to the results, the individual energy needs for exercise (DE) in horses increased from 7.30 ± 2.34 MJ/day to 20.05 ± 3.17 MJ/day, depending on the formula. Horse´s intake of digestible energy (DE) in feed ration was an average of 102 ± 7.94 MJ per day. In the final comparison, the combination of the formula from Zeman et al. (2005) for the maintenance and formula for exercise based on Harris (2001), was the most suitable for determining the necessary digestible energy (DE) intake from the feed ration.
