Perception of fixed orthodontic therapy in children

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit vnímání fixní ortodontické terapie u dětí v Ostravě. Dále zjistit vnímání vlivu fixní ortodontické terapie u dítěte na kvalitu života v oblasti orálního zdraví a vlastním vnímáním fixního ortodontického aparátu u dětí. Zjistit, zda je vnímání fixní ortodontické terapie u dítěte ovlivněno věkem a pohlavím. Metodika: Výzkum byl proveden kvantitativní metodou - standardizovanými dotazníky. Dotazníkové šetření bylo realizováno pomocí dvou standardizovaných nástrojů CPQ11-14 a Self reported questionnaire v šesti ortodontických ambulancích. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 111 dětí (n=111) ve věku 11?14 let evidovaných v ortodontických ambulancích v Ostravě. Získaná data byla statisticky vyhodnocena, ? = 0,05. Výsledky: Bylo zjištěno, že fixní ortodontická terapie má u dětí s fixním ortodontickým aparátem negativní vliv na kvalitu života v oblasti orálního zdraví, ale naměřené hodnoty nenabývají statisticky významných hodnot. Věk a pohlaví neměl dopad na vnímání vlivu fixní ortodontické terapie u dětí na orální zdraví. Statisticky významný rozdíl byl prokázán v oblasti bolesti a nepohodlí z hlediska vlastního vnímání fixního ortodontického aparátu. U dívek byla zjištěna větší vnímavost k bolesti a nepohodlí než u chlapců. Dotazníky korelovaly ve všech doménách. Největší korelace byla mezi doménou emocionální pohody a obavami při léčbě fixním ortodontickým aparátem u dětí. Závěr: Většina dětí je ráda, že může podstoupit terapii fixním ortodontickým aparátem, jelikož je to "trend" dnešní doby. Nezávažné malokluze (estetické odchylky), by z hlediska vlivu fixního ortodontického aparátu na orálního zdraví, bylo možno léčit funkční ortodontickou terapií nebo jim předcházet eliminací zlozvyků. Vhodné by bylo vzít v úvahu potřebu fixní ortodontické terapie a závažnost malokluze u dítěte, která byla léčena, jelikož může ovlivnit výsledky výzkumu. V rámci České republiky byla tato problematika publikována velmi zřídka.

Abstract:

Objective: The aim of the research was to determine the perception of fixed orthodontic treatment for children in Ostrava. Furthermore, to determine the perception of the impact of fixed orthodontic therapy with the child to the quality of life in oral health and self-perception of fixed orthodontic appliance in children. Determine whether the perception of fixed orthodontic therapy in a child affected by age and gender. Methodology: The research was carried out by a quantitative method - standardized questionnaires. The questionnaire survey was carried out using two standardized tools CPQ11-14 and self-reported questionnaire in six orthodontic clinics. The sample consisted of 111 children (n = 111) aged 11-14 years registered in orthodontic clinics in Ostrava. The obtained data were statistically analyzed, ? = 0.05. Results: It was found that a fixed orthodontic therapy in children with fixed orthodontic appliances negative impact on quality of life in oral health, but did not acquire the measured values for statistical significance. Age and gender had no impact on the perception of the impact of fixed orthodontic therapy in children on oral health. A statistically significant difference was detected in the area of pain and discomfort in terms of self-perception of fixed orthodontic appliance. For girls were found greater sensitivity to pain and discomfort than boys. Questionnaires were correlated in all domains. The greatest correlation between the domain of emotional well-being and concerns at a fixed orthodontic appliance therapy in children. Conclusion: Most children are happy that they can undergo therapy with fixed orthodontic appliance, since it is the "trend" of today. No severe malocclusion (aesthetic deviations), in terms of the effect of fixed orthodontic appliance on oral health, it was possible to treat functional orthodontic therapy to prevent or eliminating bad habits. It would be appropriate to take into account the need for fixed orthodontic treatment and the severity of malocclusion in a child that was treated as it may affect the results. In the Czech Republic, this issue was published very rarely.
