The overall aim of this diploma paper is to analyze female characters from Zora Neale Hurston's work. Initial chapters try to introduce the situation of Afro-Americans in the United States of America in the nineteenth and twentieth century. Cílem této diplomové práce je analýza ženských hrdinek v díle Zory Neale Hurstonové. Počáteční kapitoly se snaží uvést situaci Afro-Američanů ve Spojených Státech Amerických v devatenáctém a dvacátém století. Dále se tato práce zaměřuje na představení kulturního hnutí známého jako Harlemská Renesance. Hlavní část obsahu pojednává o způsobu jak Zora Neale Hurstonová vytváří své postavy.
