Code-switching in the media published in Gibraltar

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the study of the Gibraltar language code-switching system. The theoretical part of the thesis consists of chapters dealing with the history, description and possible classification of llanito, a linguistic phenomenon present only in Gibraltar, and chapters dealing with sociolinguistic topics closely related to llanito. In the practical part of the thesis, we examine llanito as a particular system of linguistic code-switching, drawing on texts published by Gibraltar journalists and academics who promote the use of llanito and the teaching of Spanish in Gibraltar.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá studiem systému střídání jazykových kódů na Gibraltaru. Teoretická část práce je tvořena kapitolami zaměřenými na historii, specifikaci a možnou klasifikaci llanita, lingvistického fenoménu přítomného pouze na Gibraltaru, a kapitolami věnovanými sociologickým tématům, která s llanitem úzce souvisí. V části praktické zkoumáme llanito jakožto konkrétní systém střídání jazykových kódů, přičemž vycházíme z textů publikovaných gibraltarskými novináři a akademiky, kteří propagují používání llanita a výuku španělštiny na Gibraltaru.
