Japan as a candidate to the permanent membership in the UN Security Council

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá rozborem japonských snah o získání stálého členství v Radě bezpečnosti Organizace spojených národů. Cílem je nastínit veškeré aspekty zájmu Japonska o stálé členství v daném orgánu. Práce se nejprve seznamuje s historickým vývojem členství Japonska v OSN a popisuje jeho klíčové události. Následující část je věnována návrhům na reformu Rady bezpečnosti a pohledu Japonska na ně. Stěžejní část práce tvoří hledání motivů státu pro získání stálého členství, porovnání Japonska i dnešních stálých členů a analýza vnitropolitické situace a vztahů se sousedy.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the analysis of Japan's efforts to gain a permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. The aim of the work is to outline all aspects of Japan's bid for the permanent membership in this body. At first, the thesis introduces the historical development of Japan's membership in the UN and describes the key events of it. The next part is devoted to plans for the Security Council reform and to the Japan's point of view. The key part of the work is comprised of the search for the state's motives for the gain a permanent membership, the Japan's comparison with current permanent members and analysis of internal situation and relations with neighboring countries.
