The Pereception of Czechs and Estonians, Their History and Presence From The Perspective of Full Time, Secondary and University - Level Students

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zjištění míry a kvality informovanosti o minulosti a současnosti dvou členských zemí Evropské unie ? České republiky a Estonska. Předmětem výzkumu jsou znalosti a vědomosti české a estonské středoškolské mládeže z minulosti a současnosti druhého národa, které postihují klíčové historické události, významné osobnosti a lokality v rozsahu zkoumaných dějepisných učebnic. Druhou tématikou našeho šetření se stala analýza používaného edukačního média ? dějepisné učebnice, a to jak řady současných učebnic dějepisu, tak učebnic ?předrevolučních? ze 70. a 80. let minulého století. Třetí součást našeho zjišťování, podobně jako v dalších výzkumech tohoto typu, představují interetnické postoje - sledovali jsme vzájemné sympatie, vnímání podobnosti Čechů a Estonců, stereotypní obrazy a míru jejich historického zatížení Respondenty dotazníkového šetření stali žáci závěrečného ročníku čtyřletého a víceletého gymnázia (oktávy) a obchodní akademie (oborů Ekonomické lyceum a Veřejná správa) ? tedy studující mládež ve věku 18-19 let. V Estonské republice tvořili zkoumaný soubor žáci dvanáctého ročníku estonského gümnaasia (maturující ročník, věk 17-18 let) ze dvou největších estonských měst.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to understand extend and quality of the awareness of past and presence of two EU member countries ? The Czech Republic and Estonia. The knowledge and secondary school students? understanding the past and presence of the second country including key historic events, important personalities and places to extend of researched textbooks becomes the object of our study. The second topic is textbook content analysis involving not only currently used history textbooks, but also the history books of the ?pre-revolutionary period? (from 1970?s and 80?s) in both countries. The third part focuses, as in previous works of this kind, on inter-ethnic attitudes. Here we tried to comprehend mutual sympathies, awareness and similarities of the Czechs and Estonians, their (reciprocal) stereotypes if any, and last but not least possible impacts of their national historical experience on the stereotypes formation. Targeted were the secondary school students aged between 18 and 19, currently attending their graduation year and enrolled at either four-year or eight-year programmes at a grammar school and business academy (study programmes Economic Lyceum and Public Administration). In the Republic of Estonia there was the corpus formed of the twelfth graders (also graduating year, aged between 17 and 18) attending gümnaasiums in two largest Estonian towns.
