Phylogeny of the subfamily Cardiophorinae (Coleoptera: Elateridae)

Abstract:

Cardiophorinae jsou kosmopolitně rozšířenou skupinou Elateridae čítající přes 1 100 popsaných druhů. Hlavním cílem této práce je vytvoření první komplexní fylogenetické hypotézy pro tuto podčeleď na základě studia nově získaných sekvencí DNA spolu s volně dostupnými daty z databáze GenBank. Sekvenovala jsem markery 18S, 28S, 16S, cox1-3' a cox1-5' a k vytvoření fylogenetických stromů jsem použila kritérium maximální pravděpodobnosti. Všechny analýzy potvrzují monofylii podčeledi Cardiophorinae a její blízký vztah k podčeledi Negastriinae, což je ve shodě s četnými studiemi založenými jak na morfologii, tak i na molekulárních datech. Monofylie s vysokou podporou je potvrzena pouze u rodů xxxxxx, xxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxxx a xxxxxxxxxxx. Nejpočetnější rod xxxxxxxxxxxx je xxxxxxxxxx a tvoří xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Výsledky analýz poukazují na stabilní pozici Cardiophorinae uvnitř Elateridae, ale rovněž na neujasněnou klasifikaci uvnitř podčeledi. Pro pochopení jednotlivých vztahů je nutný vyšší počet sekvenovaných taxonů a podrobnější studium morfologie jednotlivých druhů.

Abstract:

Cardiophorinae is a cosmopolitan group of Elateridae with more than 1 100 described species. The main goal of this work is to provide the first comprehensive phylogenetic hypothesis for this subfamily based on the study of newly produced DNA sequences along with data freely available from the GenBank database. I sequenced 18S, 28S, 16S, cox1-3' and cox1-5' markers. To create the phylogenetic trees, I used the maximum likelihood criterion. All analyses confirm the monophyly of Cardiophorinae and its close relationship with the subfamily Negastriinae, which is consistent with previous studies based on the morphology as well as on the molecular data. Monophyly with high support is confirmed only for genera xxxxxx, xxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxx, and xxxxxxxxxxx. The most species-rich genus xxxxxxxxxxx is xxxxxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Our results indicate a stable position of Cardiophorinae inside Elateridae, but also an unclear classification within the subfamily. To understand the internal relationships it is necessary to use more taxa and investigate the morphology of individual species in more detail.
