Anotácia:

Bakalářská práce “Carter, Baez, and Vega: Women’s approach to folk music in the 20th century” pojednává o postavení žen ve 30., 60. a 80. letech 20.stoleti ve Spojených státech Amerických. Práce se zaměřuje odraz událostí vybraných historických epoch v tématech písňových textů a podává přehled vývoje amerického folku a způsoby vyjádření písničkářek ve 20. století. Na příkladu písňových textů interpretek The Carter Family, Joan Baez a Suzanne Vega je prokázáno spojení historických událostí s tématy písní.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis “Carter, Baez, and Vega: Women’s approach to folk music in the 20th century” deals with women’s role in society in the historical periods of the 1930s, 1960s, and 1980s in the United States of America. The thesis is focused on the examination of chosen historical periods through the themes of folk songs. It gives a survey of the development of American folk music and woman singers/songwriter’s ways of expression in folk music in the 20th century. Citing the example of lyrics interpreted or written by The Cater Family, Joan Baez, and Suzanne Vega the connection between themes in songs and historical events is explained.
