The estimate of bregma-basion height from alternative skull dimensions: applicability in stature estimation

Abstract:

Tato má práce s názvem: Odhad rozměru bregma-basion z alternativních rozměrů lebky: využitelnost při odhadu výšky postavy, se snaží podchytit a zjistit, zda je možné dopočítat či jinak odvodit rozměr BBH z jiných, alternativních kraniálních rozměrů. Basion-bregmální vzdálenost je nesmírně důležitá k odhadu výšky postavy zemřelého na základě anatomických metod. Vycházel jsem ze studie Benjamina Aurebacha (2011), který v roce 2011 vytvořil novou metou odhadu rozměru chybějících kostí postkraniálního skeletu z kostí, které máme k dispozici. Ve své práci také uvádí teorii odvození BBH z postkraniálního skeletu. Dochází však k závěru, že odvození tohoto rozměru není možné. Zmiňuje se i o možnostech odhadu rozměru BBH z kraniálních rozměrů. Ihned však konstatuje, že je to nemožné, a to na základě výčtu mnoha faktorů, které tento odhad znemožňují. Ve své práci se snažím tento názor vyvrátit. Na základě alternativních rozměrů, které jsem sám navrhnul, a statistických analýz, jsem se pokusil délku BBH stanovit skrze tyto alternativní rozměry. K dispozici jsem měl čtyři testovací soubory. První sloužil ke zjištění korelace BBH ke všem daným kraniometrickým rozměrům. Druhý soubor sloužil jako učební pomůcka pro nacvičení správného vyhledávání kraniálních bodů a měření rozměrů. Třetí soubor (n=100) byl hlavním testovacím souborem, na kterém jsem praktikoval své teorie a domněnky. Jelikož jeden rozměr nebylo možné v tomto souboru změřit, uchýlil sem se k výběru druhého testovacího souboru z naleziště Ducové (n=50). Rozměry jsem podrobil statistickým analýzám a vyhodnotil výsledky. Žádný z mnou navržených rozměrů nevykazoval vysokou míru závislosti na rozměru BBH.

Abstract:

My thesis is called The estimate of bregma-basion high from alternative skull dimesion: applicability in stature estimation and I tried to find out whether is possible to calculate or otherwise derive deimension of BBH from other alternative cranial dimesions. BBH distance is extremely important to estimate the high of the stature of the deceased according to the anatomical methods. I started from the study of Benjamin Aurebach, who in 2011 created a new method of estimating the size of the missing bone in postcranial skeleton of bones that we have available. In his work he also presents theory which is illation from BBH postcranial skeleton. He is, however, concluded that the derivation of this dimension is not possible. It talks about the possibilities of estimating the size of the BBH cranial dimensions. He concluded immediately, that this is impossible too, on the basis of the list of many factors that make it impossible to estimate this. In my work I try to refute this view. On the basis of alternative dimensions, which I designed myself, and statistical analysis, I attempted to determine the length of BBH through these alternative dimensions. There I had four test files. The first was used to determine the correlation of BBH given to all craniometric dimensions. The second set served as a teaching aid to rehearse the correct search points and cranial measurements of dimensions. The third set (n = 100) was the main test file, in which I practiced my theories and beliefs. Because it was impossible to measure one dimension in this set, I selected a second test file from the site Ducové (n = 50). I used statistical analysis to measure dimensions and then I evaluate these results. None of my design dimensions showed a high level of dependence on the size of BBH.
