The most used investment instruments among retail investors aged 18-26 in the Czech republic in the period 2023-2024

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na analýzu nejčastěji využívaných investičních instrumentů mezi drobnými investory ve věku 18–26 let v České republice, a to během dynamického období 2023–2024, kdy digitalizace nabízí spoustu možností pro zhodnocení finančních prostředků. Cílem práce je charakterizovat vybrané investiční instrumenty, včetně jejich předností a slabých stránek, a objasnit, které z nich jsou mezi mladými investory nejpopulárnější. Zároveň se práce snaží identifikovat hlavní faktory, které ovlivňují rozhodování mladých investorů při výběru těchto instrumentů. Analýza ukazuje, že ETF představují nejčastěji využívaný investiční instrument a zároveň kryptoměny, jakožto moderní instrument, rovněž vykazují významné zastoupení. Práce dále odhaluje rozdíly v přístupu k riziku mezi pohlavími, kde ženy preferují méně rizikové instrumenty. Rovněž je zjištěno, že čím déle se investoři věnují investování, tím vyšší je procento měsíčního příjmu, který investují. Práce v neposlední řadě ukazuje, že motivace k investování se liší primárně podle věku, zatímco rozdíly mezi pohlavími jsou minimální a, že mladí investoři nejčastěji iniciují alokaci svých finančních prostředků na základě vlastní iniciativy.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the most commonly used investment instruments among young retail investors aged 18–26 in the Czech Republic during the dynamic period 2023–2024, when digitalization offers many opportunities for the appreciation of funds. The aim of the thesis is to characterise selected investment instruments, including their strengths and weaknesses, and to clarify which of these instruments are most popular among young investors. The work also seeks to identify the main factors influencing the decision-making processes of young investors when choosing these instruments. It finds that ETF represent the most commonly used investment instrument, while cryptocurrencies, as a modern option, also show a significant representation. Additionally, the work reveals differences in risk attitude between genders, where women prefer less risky instruments. It is also found that the longer investors invest, the higher the percentage of their monthly income they invest. Lastly, the work demonstrates that the motivations for investing primarily vary by age, while gender differences are minimal, and that young investors most often initiate the allocation of their financial resources on their own initiative.
