Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Subject Content in Coursebooks of English for Lower Secondary Schools” pojednává o tématech obsažených v učebnicích anglického jazyka určených pro žáky nižšího stupně víceletých gymnázií. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do dvou částí - teoretické a praktické. Část teoretická se zpočátku zabývá charakteristikou povahy žáků nižšího stupně víceletých gymnázií z pedagogického pohledu a pozastavuje se také nad jejich motivací. Druhá kapitola se v úvodu věnuje zvláštnostem trhu s učebnicemi, který se svým charakterem výrazně liší od běžného trhu a poté zkoumá učebnice angličtiny z pohledu jejich postavení, užívání a výběru. Poslední, třetí kapitola, se následně věnuje tématům obsaženým v učebnicích a to zejména tématům založeným na reálném obsahu. Část praktická popisuje výsledky výzkumu prováděného na vybraných základních školách a víceletých gymnáziích v Brně. Tento výzkum byl prováděn na základě dotazníku, jehož cílem bylo zjistit spokojenost učitelů s tématy obsaženými v učebnicích určených pro nižší stupeň středních škol a dále také bylo zjišťováno, jaká témata by podle učitelů měla být obsažena v tomto typu učebnic.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis “Subject Content in Coursebooks of English for Lower Secondary Schools” deals with subject content present in coursebooks of English for lower-secondary learners. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part opens with the pedagogical characteristics of the nature of lower-secondary learners mentioning also the notion of learners’ motivation. The second chapter introduces particularities of coursebook market that distinctively differs from other markets and then examines English coursebooks from the point of view of their position, use and selection. The last, third chapter then treats subject content in coursebooks with emphasis on topics based on real content. The practical part gives an account of the survey carried out in selected primary and secondary grammar schools in Brno. This survey was based on the questionnaire focused on determination of the teachers’ preferences over topics and satisfaction with topics contained in coursebooks for lower-secondary schools they currently use.
