Solving of geography learning tasks with increasing difficulty by primary school pupils and designing their learning progress

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá řešením gradovaných geografických učebních úloh a designováním učebního pokroku žáků 1.stupně ZŠ. První část práce se zabývá teoretickým vymezením pojmů vztahujících se ke geografickému vzdělávání. Druhou část práce tvoří část empirická, která má design případové studie. Zaměřuje se na praktické výzkumné šetření v rámci geografických gradovaných učebních úloh ve vzdělávací oblasti "Člověk a jeho svět" mezi pěti žáky 5.ročníku 1.stupně ZŠ. Cílem práce byl rozvoj geografického myšlení a geografické gramotnosti žáků prostřednictvím nástroje, v podobě on-line baterie geografických učebních úloh, kde jsme zjišťovali výběr a četnost úloh, úspěšnost a strategie žákovských řešení. Pomocí algoritmu jsme sledovali učební pokrok žáka a navrhovali vhodná opatření vedoucí k dosažení cílů. Výzkumným šetřením, za použití metod didaktického testování, statistické analýzy, dotazníkového šetření, rozhovoru a pozorování, jsme zjistili, že mezi jednotlivými žáky výzkumného souboru se objevila variabilita v četnosti a úspěšnosti řešených úloh a že žáci řešili učební úlohy pouze v úrovních nižšího řádu, tedy zapamatování a porozumění. Zjištěná variabilita výsledků naznačuje potřebu diferencované a individualizované výuky. Pro rozvoj geografické gramotnosti a geografického myšlení začlenění úloh vyšší kognitivní úrovně jako jsou aplikace, analýza, hodnocení a tvořivost.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with solving graded geography learning problems and designing the learning progress of pupils of 1st grade of primary school. The first part of the thesis deals with the theoretical definition of concepts related to geography education. The second part of the thesis is the empirical part, which has a case study design. It focuses on a practical research investigation in the context of geographical graded learning tasks in the educational area "Human and its world' among five pupils in Year 5 of Primary 1. The aim of the study was to develop students' geographical thinking and geographical literacy through an instrument, in the form of an online battery of geographical learning tasks, where we investigated the selection and frequency of tasks, success rates and students' solution strategies. Using an algorithm, we monitored pupil learning progress and suggested appropriate measures of achievement. Through the research investigation, using the methods of didactic testing, statistical analysis, questionnaire survey, interview and observation, we found that there was variability in the frequency and success of solving tasks among the pupils of the research group and that pupils solved learning tasks only in the lower order levels, i.e. memorization and comprehension. The observed variability in the results suggests the need for differentiated and individualised instruction, to better develop geographical literacy and thinking by incorporating higher-level cognitive tasks such as application, analysis, evaluation and creativity.
