The Specifics of the Technical Translation

Abstract:

The theoretical part this thesis is devoted to the principle of translation, characteristics and style of the professional text with the main emphasis on the technical text. They are listed specifics and peculiarities of translation of technical text. The main attention is concentrated on terminology and terminography focusing on the terminology and definitions used in the creation of terminological records as a basis to build a terminological database and dictionary. The empirical part deals with the difficulty and complexity of the translation of texts in the field of measurement and measuring techniques (MaMT). Examples are given of the use of terminological equivalence in translation of these texts and analysis of translation by Ch. Nord. The result of terminology work carried out in accordance with applicable local and international standards are two terminographical products focused at translation: terminological databases MaMT and professional terminology bilingual Czech-German dictionary MaMT with the definition of selected terms.

Abstract:

Teoretická část diplomové práce je věnována principu překladu, charakteristice a stylu odborného textu s hlavním důrazem na technický text. Jsou uvedena specifika a zvláštnosti překladu technického textu. Hlavní pozornost je soustředěna na terminologii a terminografii se zaměřením na definice používaného názvosloví a tvorbu terminologických záznamů jako základ pro terminologickou databázi a sestavení terminologického slovníku. Empirická část se zabývá náročností a složitostí překladů textů v oboru měření a měřící techniky (MaMT). Jsou uvedeny příklady použití terminologické ekvivalence při translaci těchto textů a analýza překladu podle Ch. Nord. Výsledkem terminologické práce provedené v souladu s platnými českými i mezinárodními normami jsou dva terminografické produkty zaměřené na překlad: terminologická databáze MaMT měření a měřící techniky a odborný terminologický dvoujazyčný česko-německý slovník MaMT s definicí vybraných termínů.
