Methods and Approaches in Teaching English at Primary School: Focus on Montessori Method

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Metody a přístupy ve výuce anglického jazyka na 1. stupni základní školy se zaměřením na Montessori pedagogiku se zabývá výukovými metodami a přístupy, které se uplatňují, jak název uvádí, v Montessori pedagogice. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a výzkumnou část. První část popisuje život Marie Montessori, jakožto zakladatelky této alternativní koncepce, a principy pedagogiky vztahující se na žáky mladšího školního věku. Mimo jiné se teoretická část zabývá také vybranými výukovými metodami a přístupy, které se uplatňují nejen v tradičním vzdělávání, ale také v Montessori školách. Empirická část byla vytvořena na základě dvou výzkumných metod - rozhovoru a dotazníku. Hlavním cílem práce bylo zjistit, jaké výukové metody a přístupy se využívají v hodinách anglického jazyka na základních Montessori školách. Dalším cílem bylo také zjistit, zda lektoři ve výuce cizího jazyk využívají konkrétní metody TPR a CLIL a jaké přínosy v nich spatřují.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis Methods and Approaches in Primary English Teaching: Focused on Montessori Teaching deals with teaching methods and approaches applied, as the title says, in Montessori Teaching. The thesis is divided into the theoretical part and the research part. The theoretical part describes Maria Montessori's life as the founder of this alternative concept and teaching method related to the primary level pupils. It also deals, the theoretical part deals with selected teaching methods and approaches that are applied not only in the conventional teaching but also in Montessori schools. The research part is based on two research methods, the interview and the questionnaire. The main objective of the thesis is to find out what teaching methods and approaches are used in English lessons at Montessori primary schools. Furthermore, the thesis analyses whether teachers use particular methods such as TPR and CLIL in foreign language teaching and what benefits in using them can be seen.
