Concept of walkability and city center of Ostrava

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá obecným konceptem a teorií walkability. Jedná se o poměrně nový, nicméně stále populárnější přístup řešení urbánních problémů. V teoretické části práce podrobněji popisuji a zkoumám jeho vliv na městská centra. V empirické části práce se pak věnuji konkrétním projektům případně revitalizacím, které ovlivňují míru walkability v městském centru Ostravy. Zabývám se ovšem také principy a softwarovými řešeními měření průchodnosti. Průchodnost je pak jednou ze součástí a definic samotné walkability a její zjištění je klíčové pro určení celkové míry walkability ve městě.

Abstract:

The text of the abstract. This thesis deals with the general concept and theory of walkability. This is a relatively new, but increasingly popular, approach to solve urban problems. In the theoretical part of the thesis I describe it in detail and investigate its influence on city centers. In the empirical part of the thesis I focus on specific projects, eventually the revitalizations that interfere with the degree of walkability in the historical center of Ostrava. However, I also deal with principles and software solutions for measuring of traverse. The traverse is then one of the components and definitions of the walkability itself and its recognition is crucial to determine the overall rate of walkability in a city.
