Impact of sound on time flow in film

Abstract:

Tématem této práce je vliv zvukové složky na percepci času při sledování audiovizuálního díla a pokus o vyhledání vzorců a postupů ve zvukové tvorbě, které přispívají ke změně této percepce. V prvé části jsou uvedeny a popsány zdroje ze světové filozofie a filmové teorie zabývající se tématem času, především díla Henriho Bergsona a Gillese Deleuzeho. Z těchto zdrojů jsou vybrány myšlenky a úryvky k ústřednímu tématu práce relevantní. V druhé části jsou nově kategorizovány různé způsoby vnímání času v audiovizuálním díle a u každého z nich popsány rozličné dramaturgické postupy zvukové tvorby, které v rámci vnímání času hrají roli. Tyto postupy jsou dále prozkoumávány ve světle teorie zavedené v prvé části práce. Tato práce je pojata jako subjektivní úvaha nad tématem, která připouští svoji neúplnost a možnou polemiku.

Abstract:

Theme of this thesis is influence of the sound track on perception of time, when watching an audiovisual work, and attempt at finding patterns and methods in sound creation, that are changing this perception. In the first part of this work, different sources from global philosophy an art theory, that deals with the subject of time, are introduced. Namely works from Henri Bergson and Gilles Deleuze, from which certain thoughts and pieces, relevant to the subject of this thesis, are extracted. In the second part, different directions of audiovisual influences of the time flow are introduced and categorized and in each of them different methods of sound creation, that play certain role in these influences, are described. These methods are later looked at in the light of the theory established in the first part. This thesis is written as a subjective reflection over the main theme that admits it's own incompleteness and possible different opinions.
