Lands of the Bohemian Crown and Asia in the High Middle Ages

Abstract:

Cílem mé bakalářské práce je přiblížit situaci v českých zemích a jejích stycích s asijskými zeměmi v období od počátku jedenáctého století do století čtrnáctého. Dále se budu věnovat jak obecnému popisu reálií v českých zemích, tak jednotlivým asijským centrům z hlediska jejich vlivu na obchodní i politické poměry, tak samo návaznosti na transkontinentální obchodní stezky. Zajímat mě poté bude působení mnišských řádů a významných osobností na rozvíjení povědomí o východních zemích. Celkově se budu věnovat jak obecným poměrům, tak kulturním, sociálním i náboženským odlišnostem. Práci poté završím hledáním zmínek o Asii v pramenech české provenience.

Abstract:

The aim of my bachelor thesis is to present the situation in the Czech lands and its relations with Asian countries in the period from the beginning of the eleventh century to the fourteenth century. Furthermore, I will focus on a general description of the realities in the Czech lands as well as on individual Asian centres in terms of their influence on trade and political conditions, and on the connection to transcontinental trade routes. I will then be interested in the impact of monastic orders and prominent figures on the development of awareness of the eastern lands. Overall, I will focus on general conditions as well as cultural, social and religious differences. I will then conclude the thesis by looking for references to Asia in sources of Czech provenance.
