German Theater in Brno during World War 2

Abstract:

Aim of this thesis is the German Theatre in Brno during the World War II. Theatre has always been an important part of social life and one of the most preferred and popular places where people can relax and enjoy themselves. Many disturbing changes came with the occupation of Czechoslo-vakia and Theatre was no exception. The main goal of this thesis is to introduce these changes and describe how the German Theatre performed throughout occupation. The second goal is to deter-mine whether the German Theatre in Brno was following Reichstheaterkammer (Theatre Propa-ganda) rules and instructions to certain extent or whether it has gone its own way. Particularly the-atrical seasons after the year 1938 and their performance are emphasised. These seasons give us unique perspective on repertory and management under German protectorate those theatres had, as well as which authors were preferred and what achievements the German Theatre in Brno experienced.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá brněnským německým divadlem za dob protektorátu. Divadlo bylo vždy důležitou součástí společenského života a jedno z nejvíce oblíbených míst, kam se lidé chodívali bavit a odreagovat. S okupací Čech a Moravy nastalo mnoho znepokojivých změn, které se nevyhnuly ani instituci jako je divadlo. Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce je představit a popsat, jak brněnské německé divadlo během okupace Čech a Moravy fungovalo. Druhým cílem této práce je zjistit, zda brněnské německé divadlo bylo do určité míry podřízeno pravidlům a rozkazům ze strany Reichsteaterkammer, nebo zda šlo vlastní cestou. Důraz je kladen zejména na herní sezony po roce 1938, díky jejíchž analýze můžeme dobře rozpoznat, jaká představení se v té době hrála a jaké vedení divadlo mělo. Dále jací autoři byli upředňostňováni a jaké úspěchy brněnské německé divadlo v konkrétních sezonách zažívalo.
