Video - performances / evolution phases

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with evolution of video art, specifically with transformations of used techniques in relation to performances and videos. Selected world-wide video artists located in many groups are connected by different items, which are used to show their different approaches. Basic characteristics of artists are described within every single group. The thesis, in more detail, also deals with every single group as a whole and as well with differences between all the groups. Nam June Paik and Mr. and Mrs. Vasulka (founders of video art) are part of the first group that this thesis deals with. In the second group, we can find artists such as Vito Acconci, Marina Abramovic and Bruce Nauman (early video art). Dan Graham, Joan Jonas (2. generation connected to installations and performances) belong to the third group. The fourth group is represented by Bill Viola and Gary Hill (3. generation). The next to last group consists of female artists such as Valie Export, Pipilotti Rist and Vanessa Beecroft (women on the world of video performances). In the last case, the thesis deals with artist group formed by Shirin Neshat, Mona Hatoum, Tehching Hsieh and Brian Springer (social politics to media activism).

Abstract:

Bakalárska diplomová práca sa zaoberá vývojom videoartu, presnejšie premenám použitých techník vo vzťahu performácií a videa. Vybraných svetových videoartových umelcom zaradených do viacerých skupín spájajú rôzne prvky, na ktorých poukazujem na ich rôzne prístupy. Základné charakteristiky umelcov sú popisované vo vnútri každej skupiny. Práca sa podrobnejšie venuje aj každej skupine ako celku a rozdielom medzi jednotlivými skupina. Do prvej skupiny patria Nam June Paik a manželia Vasulkovci (zakladatelia videoartu).V druhej skupine nájdeme umelcov ako sú Vito Acconci, Marina Abramovic, Bruce Nauman (ranný videoart). V tretej skupine sú umelci Dan Graham, Joan Jonas(2. generácia spájaná s inštaláciami a predstaveniami).Štvrtú skupinu reprezentujú umelci Bill Viola,Gary Hill (3. generácia). Predposledná skupina je skupina žien ako Valie Export, Pipilotti Rist, Vanessa Beecroft (ženy vo svete video - performácií). V poslednom rade sa venuje skupine umelcov Shirin Neshat, Mona Hatoum, Tehching Hsieh a Brian Springer (sociálna politika až mediálny aktivizmus).
