Abstract:

Práce reaguje na článek Christophera Hopkinsona Explicitation and Implicitation of Binary Coherence Relations in Translation (2007), ve kterém autor představil svoji funkční hypotézu týkající se posunů v explicitnosti u binárních koherentních vztahů. Hopkinson tyto vztahy rozdělil na základě významu na statické a dynamické a došel k závěru, že dynamické vztahy vykazují relativně vyšší tendenci k explicitaci. Tato práce upravuje vymezení statických a dynamických vztahů u Hopkinsona a s touto upravenou klasifikací se pak přistupuje ke zkoumání korpusu publicistických textů. Hypotéza je ověřována jak na paralelním, tak i na tzv. srovnatelném korpusu. Hopkinson dále uvádí, že cílové texty jsou více explicitně dynamické. Srovnatelný korpus proto slouží ke zkoumání interní textové koherence, která se zakládá na dynamických nebo statických vztazích, v přeložených a původních textech jednoho jazyka.

Abstract:

The thesis is a response to the article Explicitation and Implicitation of Binary Coherence Relations in Translation by Christopher Hopkinson (2007) where he introduced his hypothesis based on a functional, meaning-based typology of explicitness shifts. Hopkinson studied binary coherence relations (BCRs), which he divided into static and dynamic. His conclusion was that dynamic relations ‘attract’ a relatively higher degree of explicitation. The current thesis is an attempt to redefine the static and dynamic binary coherence relations introduced by Hopkinson and to apply this revised typology on a corpus of newspaper texts. The hypothesis is tested on both a parallel and a comparable corpus. Hopkinson also observed that the target texts tend to be more explicitly dynamic. The comparable corpus is thus used in order to explore target and original texts in one language in terms of their internal coherence based on dynamic or static relations.
