Modelling and estimating the results of sporting events by using probability and statistics

Abstract:

Tématem této práce je odhadování výsledků fotbalových zápasů pomocí matematického modelu. Dále se zabývá hledáním rozdílů mezi výstupy modelu a odhady sázkových kanceláří. Na těchto rozdílech se snaží postavit výdělečný model sázení na sportovní utkání. V práci je předpokládáno klasické sázení na konečný výsledek v základní hrací době. V tom případě zápas může skončit třemi různými způsoby. Výhrou domácího týmu, remízou a výhrou hostujícího týmu. V roce 1982 se touto problematikou zbýval M. J. Maher a v roce 1997 pánové M. J. Dixon a S. G. Coles. Na obě studie tato práce navazuje a čerpá z nich.

Abstract:

The primary object of this bachelor thesis is to estimate results of football matches using a mathematical model. It also deals with finding differences between the outputs of the model and the estimation of betting office. On these differences it tries to build a profitable model for betting on football matches. In this thesis it is expected the classic betting on the final result in regular time. In this case the match can end only with three different ways ? home team win, drawn, away team win. This issue was remained by MJ Maher in 1982 and by Dixon and Coles in 1997. This thesis follows both researches and draws from them.
