Algorithm for evaluating correlations between market indices and its usage for quantifying the linkages between traditional asset markets

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této disertační práce je návrh algoritmu pro hodnocení korelativnosti tržních indexů a jeho použití při kvantifikaci vazeb mezi tradičními kategoriemi trhů podkladových aktiv- trhů akcií, dluhopisů, měn a komodit. Navržený HKTI algoritmus založený na testech statistických hypotéz o normalitě a nezávislosti mezi dvojicemi tržních indexů je použit při kvantifikaci a vyhodnocení existence nebo neexistence vzájemných vazeb mezi globálními benchmarky tradičních trhů podkladových aktiv- Standard & Poor's stock index, 30-Year U.S. Treasury Bond Price index, Dollar Index a Thomson Reuters/Jefferies CRB index. Výzkum je realizován v pre definovaném období od 3. 1. 2000 do 1. 8. 2014 na bázi měsíčních závěrečných cen přepočtených horizontální analýzou na relativní návratnosti. Prostřednictvím globální makroanalýzy je determinován interval základních makroekonomických podmínek výzkumu umožňující budoucí porovnání výsledků. Empirické výsledky této disertační práce přináší nové poznatky využitelné mimo jiné v oblastech globální taktické alokace aktiv, evaluace hospodářských cyklů a analýzy trendů. Navržen je mimo jiné nový piktogram propojení tradičních a inter tržních analýz FATAPAIACorrA. Tato práce kombinuje poznatky z oblasti mezinárodních financí, statistiky, makroekonome a ekonometrie a přináší nové poznatky i v tomto směru. Nově je definován pojem inter tržní analýza.

Abstract:

The main goal of this doctoral thesis is to design an algorithm for evaluating correlations between market indices and to quantify the linkages among traditional asset market categories-stock, bond, currency and commodity markets by following the steps of the algorithm. HKTI algorithm based on testing statistical hypotheses about normality and independence is used to detect the presence or absence of links between global traditional asset market benchmarks Standard & Poor's stock index, the 30-Year US Treasury Bond Price Index, Dollar Index and the Thomson Reuters / Jefferies CRB index. The research is conducted in a pre-defined period from 3.1.2000 to 1.8.2014 on the basis of monthly closing prices converted to the monthly relative returns by horizontal analysis. Through the global macro-analysis the interval of basic macroeconomic conditions of this research is determined allowing the future comparison. The empirical results of this thesis provide new insights, inter alia, useful in the areas of global tactical asset allocation, evaluation of business cycles and trend analysis. New pictogram of traditional and inter market analyses interconnection FATAPAIACorrA is designed. This thesis combines knowledge in the field of international finance, statistics, macroeconomics and econometrics and provides new insights in this matter.
