Problems of unemployment in the Jesenik district

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je zhodnotit situaci na trhu práce v okrese Jeseník v letech 2013–2023 a identifikovat hlavní problémy související s nezaměstnaností v tomto regionu. Analýza ukazuje, že okres Jeseník vykazoval po celé sledované období vyšší nezaměstnanost než Olomoucký kraj, přestože mezi roky 2013 a 2019 došlo k jejímu výraznému poklesu. V roce 2020 se situace zhoršila v souvislosti s pandemií COVID-19, po níž následovala stabilizace trhu práce. Významným znakem okresu je sezónnost zaměstnanosti, která souvisí zejména s cestovním ruchem. Práce dále ukazuje, že mezi nejvíce ohrožené skupiny uchazečů patří osoby s nižším vzděláním a uchazeči ve věku 55 a více let, jejichž podíl mezi nezaměstnanými v čase roste. Zároveň práce potvrzuje, že v okrese existuje nesoulad mezi nabídkou pracovní síly a požadavky zaměstnavatelů, což ztěžuje obsazování některých pracovních míst. Trh práce v okrese Jeseník je tak ovlivněn nejen celkovým ekonomickým vývojem, ale také periferní polohou regionu, odvětvovou strukturou a omezenou dostupností kvalifikované pracovní síly. Výsledky práce ukazují, že nezaměstnanost v okrese Jeseník má především strukturální a sezónní charakter.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the labour market situation in the Jeseník district between 2013 and 2023, with particular attention to the main problems related to unemployment in the region. The analysis shows that the Jeseník district recorded higher unemployment than the Olomouc Region throughout the entire observed period, although unemployment declined significantly between 2013 and 2019. In 2020, the situation worsened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, after which the labour market gradually stabilised. A significant feature of the district is the seasonal nature of employment, mainly connected with tourism. The thesis further shows that the most vulnerable groups of job seekers are people with lower levels of education and applicants aged 55 and over, whose share among the unemployed has been increasing over time. At the same time, the thesis confirms that there is a mismatch between labour supply and employers’ requirements in the district, which makes it difficult to fill certain job vacancies. The labour market in the Jeseník district is therefore influenced not only by overall economic development, but also by the peripheral location of the region, its sectoral structure and the limited availability of qualified labour. The results of the thesis indicate that unemployment in the Jeseník district is primarily structural and seasonal in nature.
