Cult of Celebrity

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je přehledovou studií zaměřenou na uvedení do problematiky kultu celebrit a věnuje se dnes rozšířenému fenoménu celebrit. Klade si za cíl zmapovat dostupné materiály dotýkající se tohoto fenoménu a pomocí těchto materiálů odpovědět na otázku jak a proč je dnes daný fenomén tak rozšířený. V úvodní části práce je krátce představen pojem celebrity a také historické významy tohoto pojmu. Jsou předloženy a nastíněny širší souvislosti, které rozšíření fenoménu celebrit umožnily či jej doprovázely. Dále jsou v práci uvedeny také některé z dosavadních studií zabývajících se celebritami. Pomocí těchto studií jsou shrnuty dosavadní používané kategorie slávy, tedy pokusy o rozdělení, chceme-li třídění, celebrit. Poté je popsána změna, která se udála ve vnímání veřejné a soukromé sféry, a která je podle Johna B. Tohompsona doprovázena procesem zviditelňování, který s sebou přináší i různá rizika. Další část je potom věnována nejčastějším oblastem produkce celebrit a jsou zde nastíněny aktuální otázky a problémy, které jsou v dnešní době spojené s fenoménem celebrit. V poslední části této práce jsou popsány kulturní a sociální funkce celebrit ve společnosti.

Abstract:

This thesis is a scoping study aimed at putting the issue of cult celebrity and it is dedicated to the widespread phenomenon of celebrity today. It aims to map the available materials related with this phenomenon, and using these materials to answer the question of how and why the phenomenon is now so widespread. In the beginning of this work it is the concept of celebrity and historical meanings of that term briefly introduced. They are presented and outlined a broader context, the extension of the phenomenon of celebrity, or allow it to accompany. Further, there are listed some of the studies dealing with celebrities. With these studies are summarized existing categories used by fame, then attempt to divide, if we want to sort, celebrities. Another study describes a change which occurred in the perception of public and private spheres, which, according to John B. Thompson accompanied by advocacy process, which also entails various risks. Another part deals with the most common areas of production of celebrities and there are outlined current issues and problems that are nowadays associated with the phenomenon of celebrity. The last part of this work describes the cultural and social functions of celebrities in society.
