Assessing Self-sufficiency in the Elderly with Dementia in Institutional Care

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou posuzování soběstačnosti seniorů trpících demencí, kteří jsou umístěni v institucionální péči. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do dvou hlavních částí, na teoretickou a výzkumnou. Teoretická část je podrobněji členěna do kapitol, které se zabývají stářím, seniorskou tématikou a péčí o seniory v ČR. Výzkumná část shrnuje metodologii výzkumu, včetně teoretických východisek, popisu výzkumného vzorku a stanovení hypotéz. Cílem výzkumné práce je posouzení soběstačnosti u seniorů s demencí v institucionální péči prostřednictvím standardizovaného nástroje DAD-CZ. Ke sběru dat byl využíván standardizovaný nástroj - Dotazník soběstačnosti DAD-CZ v rámci kvantitativní výzkumné strategie. Závěr práce je věnovaný interpretaci výsledků a diskuzi na dané téma. Bylo potvrzeno, že míra soběstačnosti u seniorů s demencí významně koreluje s jejich score v MMSE. Dále byla prokázána statisticky významná souvislost mezi score DAD-CZ a typu instituce, kde je senior umístěn. Z hlediska demografických ukazatelů nebyla zjištěna statisticky významná souvislost ve score soběstačnosti a věkem, či pohlavím jedince.

Abstract:

The master thesis deals with the issue of self-sufficiency assessment of the elderly, suffering from dementia, which is placed in institutional care. The thesis is divided into two main parts, theoretical part and research. The theoretical part is divided into chapters, dealing with older, senior topics and care for the elderly in the Czech Republic. The research summarizes the methodology of the research, including theoretical background, description of the research sample and hypothesis determination. The goal of the research is to use the standardized DAD-CZ questionnaire for assessing self-sufficiency of the elderly with dementia in institutional care. As data collection tool was used standardized - DAD-CZ Self-sufficiency questionnaire within the framework of quantitative research strategy. The conclusion of the thesis is devoted to interpreting the results and discussion on the topic. It was confirmed, that the degree of self-sufficiency in dementia seniors significantly correlated with their scores in MMSE. Furthermore, the research demonstrate a statistically significant correlation between the DAD-CZ score and the type of institution, where the senior live. From the aspect of demographic indicators, a statistically significant correlation was not found between self-sufficiency and age or gender.
