Self-conception of a Family of a Child with Down Syndrome in an Inclusive

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je prozkoumat sebepojetí rodin s dítětem s Downovým syndromem v souvislosti s rostoucími inkluzivními snahami ve společnosti. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část se zabývá stručným vymezením mentální retardace, charakterizuje specifický vývoj osobnosti dítěte s Downovým syndromem, vymezuje problematiku postavení osob s mentálním postižením ve společnosti a ochranu jejich práv. Podrobně se zabývá otázkou výchovy a vzdělávání těchto jedinců, seznamuje s možnostmi školské integrace, představuje inovativní inkluzivní snahy v této oblasti. Dále vymezuje specifické potřeby rodin dítěte s Downovým syndromem , jejich společenskou situaci i klíčovou úlohu v procesu výchovy a socializace dítěte. Praktická část prezentuje výzkumné šetření provedené v rodinách dětí s Downovým syndromem, které analyzuje jejich aktuální sebepojetí ve společnosti.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to study self-conception of families with a child diagnosed with Down syndrome in the context of increasing efforts to include such cases into the society. This thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part consists of a brief definition of mental retardation, description of individual personality development of children with Down syndrome. It also discusses the question of the social standing of people with mental disabilities and protection of their rights. Subsequently, upbringing and education of these children, possibilities of a school integration and inovative inclusive efforts in this field are discussed. The final part of the theoretical section deals with specific needs of the families with a child diagnosed with Down Syndrome, their social situation, and the their key role in the process of child's upbringing and socialization. Presenting the results of an investigation made in families with children with Down syndrome, the practical part analyses the families' self-conception in today's society.
