"Asterix in Bavarian": An Analysis of the Bavarian Dialect with the Help of a Comic Book

Abstract:

The presented bachelor thesis deals with the Bavarian dialect, which is explored with the help of the accessible albums of the Asterix comics from the "Dialect Series". The theoretical part describes the differences between the Bavarian dialect and the Standard German language with the help of specialist literature. Furthermore, the comic is described as a literary form, in which the text in comic is emphasised. The main emphases of the linguistic examination of the Bavarian dialect in comparison to the Standard German are all available language mediums, which are analysed. In the practical part of the theses, the comic serves as the main source of information for the linguistic differentiation of the dialect and the German language. In all cases, versions of the albums are available in both Standard German and the Bavarian dialect. The lexical part is presented most extensively because of the language in comic, which is very limited in relation to the linguistic tools.

Abstract:

Die vorliegende Bachelorarbeit befasst sich mit dem bayerischen Dialekt, der mithilfe der zugänglichen Ausgaben des Asterix-Comics aus der Mundart Reihe analysiert wird. Der theoretische Teil beschreibt die Unterschiede zwischen dem bayerischen Dialekt und dem Standarddeutschen anhand der Fachliteratur. Des Weiteren wird der Comic als eine literarische Form beschrieben, wobei der Nachdruck auf den Text im Comic gelegt wird. Die Schwerpunkte der sprachlichen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Bairischen im Vergleich zum Hochdeutschen sind alle zu Verfügung stehenden textuellen Sprachmittel, die analysiert werden. Der Comic dient im praktischen Teil der Arbeit als die Hauptinformationsquelle zur sprachlichen Unterscheidung des Hochdeutschen und des Bairischen, wobei die sowohl in Hochdeutsch als auch in Bairisch geschriebenen Ausgaben zur Verfügung stehen. Der lexikalische Teil wird am umfangreichsten dargestellt, da die Comicsprache stark beschränkt ist, was die sprachlichen Mittel angeht.
