Measurements of the Concentration of Methanol in Alcoholic Drinks Using the Vibrational Spectroscopic Method

Abstract:

Téma diplomové práce se vztahuje k nedávné "methanolové kauze" v České republice, kdy došlo k několika případům smrtelných otrav methanolem obsaženým v konzumních lihovinách. V teoretické části jsou popsány metody, kterými je možno určit přítomnost a koncentraci methanolu v konzumních lihovinách. V praktické části je využita Ramanova spektroskopie pro analýzu připraveného souboru vzorků a hlavním cílem je zhodnocení rozpoznatelnosti nebezpečného množství methanolu v konzumních lihovinách. K tomuto účelu byly z naměřených dat sestaveny kalibrační křivky. V práci jsou zohledněny i možné faktory ovlivňující výsledky měření. Bylo zjištěno, že Ramanova spektroskopie je vhodnou metodou, s jejíž pomocí lze jednoduše a rychle analyzovat konzumní lihoviny a zjistit zda obsahují smrtelné množství methanolu.

Abstract:

Topic of this thesis is related to the recent "methanol scandal" in the Czech Republic which caused a several cases of the fatal poisoning due to a consumption of the consumer spirits which contained methanol. Theoretical part describes the methods which can be used to determine the presence and the concentration of the methanol in the consumer spirits. In the practical part the Raman Spectroscopy is used to analyze prepared collection of samples and the main goal is to evaluate possibility to recognize the dangerous quantity of methanol in consumer spirits. For this purpose the calibration curves have been created from the measured data. This thesis is also consider possible factors which can affect the results of the measurement. It has been found that the Raman Spectroscopy is a suitable method that allows easily and quickly analyze consumer spirits and determine whether they contain the lethal amount of methanol.
