Production functions of community gardens

Abstract:

Městské zahradničení, kam lze zařadit i komunitní zahrady, má potenciál zajistit částečnou potravinovou soběstačnost. V současné době je ale tento aspekt přehlížen s ohledem na další benefity, které komunitní zahrady poskytují (např. socializace s ostatními členy nebo relaxace). Cílem bakalářské práce je analyzovat produkční funkci a zodpovědět výzkumnou otázku: Jak velkou úsporu výdajů domácnosti lze dosáhnout produkcí potravin na komunitních zahradách? K tomu sloužila primární data získaná prostřednictvím šetření mezi členy zahrad ve formě dotazníku a pěstitelských deníku, v nichž si jednotliví členové zahrad individuálně dokumentovali v průběhu sezony jednotlivé pěstované plodiny, sklizený objem a kdy sklizeň provedli. Získaná primární data byla vyhodnocena pomocí deskriptivní statistiky a individuálně u jednotlivých členů byla stanovena dosažená úspora na 1 m2 na nákladech za potraviny. Kvantifikace potenciálu produkce umožní monetárně vyjádřit produkční funkci. Získané výsledky přispějí ke komplexnímu vyhodnocení celospolečenského přínosu komunitních zahrad, které lze využít jako argument pro jejich zakládání a budoucí podporu.

Abstract:

Urban gardening, which also includes community gardens, has the potential to ensure partial food self-sufficiency. However, this aspect is currently being overlooked at the expense of the other benefits that community gardens provide (eg socializing with other members or relaxation). The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to analyze the production function and answer the research question: How much savings in household expenses can be achieved by producing food at community gardens? It was done using primary data obtained through a survey of members of the gardens in the form of a questionnaire and a grower's diary, in which individual members of the gardens individually documented during the season the individual crops grown, the harvested volume and when they did the harvest. The primary data obtained was evaluated using descriptive statistics and the savings per 1 m2 in food costs were achieved individually for individual members. The quantification of potential will allow production to be expressed monetarily as a production function. The obtained results will contribute to a comprehensive evaluation of the social contribution of community gardens, which can be used as an argument for their establishment and future support.
