Secondary sex ratio in Felids

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je shromáždit co nejvíce dostupných informací k faktorům ovlivňujícím sekundární poměr pohlaví kočkovitých šelem. U některých kočkovitých šelem nebyl poměr pohlaví nebo vlivy, které na něj působí studovány vůbec, anebo je nedostatek informací k tomu, aby se z nich dalo něco vyvozovat. Snažil jsem se poukázat, jaký rozdíl skýtá život ve smečkách oproti životu solitérně, a jaký to má nebo nemá dopad na poměr pohlaví. Zjistil jsem, že tento vliv je mnohem komplexnější a rozsáhlejší než ostatní vlivy. S životem ve smečkách úzce souvisí velikost vrhu a jeho vliv na sekundární poměr pohlaví, protože velikost a pohlavní složení vrhu hodně ovlivňuje nejen fitness matky, ale i fitness jejích potomků. Naopak u solitérně žijících druhů velikost vrhu neovlivňuje sekundární poměr pohlaví. U mortality jsem došel ke zjištění, že mortalita byla velice podobná napříč druhy kočkovitých šelem. Věk naproti tomu měl různé dopady u jednotlivých druhů. K ročním obdobím bylo jen velice málo informací, co se poměru pohlaví týče. Lidský vliv na cokoliv je v dnešní době velmi ožehavým, populárním a často diskutovaným tématem, proto jsem se snažil porovnat jak negativní zásahy do přírody a jejich vlivy tak i ty pozitivní. O to samé jsem se snažil u života v zajetí a života ve volné přírodě a došel jsem k zjištění, že se sekundární poměry pohlaví v zajetí a přírodě se neliší, i když zvířata v zajetí mají lepší podmínky k životu, jako například stálý přísun potravy a vody, nejsou ohroženi jinými predátory, mají zdravotní péči a podobně.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is gather as much informations that are available about factors which affected secondary sex ratio in felines. At some felids the sex ratio or effects that affect it were not studied at all or there is lack of information to deduce anything. I tried to point on difference between life in pack and life solitary and if there is or not some impact on sex ratio. I found that this effect is more complex and larger than the other effects. The influence of the litter size on the secondary sex ratio is closely related to the life in packs, because the size and sex composition of the litter affects not only fitness of the mother, but also the fitness of her offsprings. Conversely, litter size in species that live solitary has no effect on secondary sex ratio. I came to finding that the mortality rate was very similar across feline species. On the other hand age has different effects for individual species. There are lack of informations to seasons effect on secondary sex ratio. Human influence on anything is very delicate and often discussed topic nowadays, so I tried to compare negative interventions to nature and their effects as well as positive ones. I tried the same thing in life in captivity and life in the wild and I came to find that the secondary sex ratios in captivity and in the wild do not differ as expected, as captive animals have better living conditions, such as constant supply of food and water, there are not threatened by other predators, they have health care etc.
