This thesis deals with the work of Karel Václav Rais from a narratological perspective. It analyzes the narration in selected works of this author of the second half of the 19th century - in Zapadlí vlastenci, Kalibův zločin, Pantáta Bezoušek, Západ and the short stories called Ta srdce!, Když se připozdívá, Pes and V tiché chalupě.
