Geny hlavního histokompatibilního systému (MHC) jsou důležitou součástí imunitního systému, kde zodpovídají za vazbu cizorodých antigenů a iniciaci imunitní odpovědi. Díky své vysoké variabilitě jsou geny MHC studovány u mnoha živočišných druhů za účelem popsat jejich diverzitu, fylogenezi či vztah variability MHC a resistence jedince k infekčním nemocem a parazitům. Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) is a set of genes encoding transmembrane proteins which recognized antigen peptides and present them to T-cells, thus playing a crucial role in the vertebrate immunity.
