Animation as a didactic tool in education

Abstract:

Tato práce byla věnována rozboru možností využití stop-motion animace jako didaktického prostředku ve výuce. Cílem práce bylo navržení vhodné výukové jednotky a její následné ověření v edukačním procesu. Tento cíl se autorovi podařilo splnit. Závěry práce daly odpovědi na otázky, jaký je vztah mezi využitím tvorby stop-motion animace ve výuce a úrovní měřitelných učebních výsledků u žáků, jestli je využití tvorby stop-motion animace ve výuce efektivnější pro dosažení intenzivnějšího zapojení žáků do výuky. Pro potřeby této práce autor navrhnul dvě samostatné výukové jednotky, protože pro ověření výstupů pedagogického experimentu z výuky byla použita technika známá jako Rotace faktorů. Metodika práce v každé výukové jednotce byla přizpůsobena ověření využití tvorby stop-motion animace v rámci OV dvou rozdílných skupin žáků druhého ročníku SŠE oboru Elektrikář. Při návrhu výukových jednotek autor musel respektovat střídání těchto skupin na učebnách OV. Z tohoto důvodu byl postup rotace faktorů mírně modifikován. Měření vstupního stavu dvou skupin žáků probíhalo nejen na počátku celé výukové jednotky, ale také po prvním měření výstupního stavu. Byla provedena také komparace měřitelných výsledků žákovských skupin v kontextu s metodou výuky. K tomuto měření byly v Socrative? vytvořeny dva kvízy. Jeden kvíz byl zaměřený na testování znalostí žáků o HW, ten druhý byl zaměřený na PZ. Pro měření vstupního a výstupního stavu byl pro obě skupiny žáků použitý kvíz s identickými otázkami. Po prozkoumání odpovědí žáků na tyto kvízy autor práce provedl analýzu výsledků. Měření vstupních a výstupních stavů probíhalo vždy v kontextu s provedeným začleněním stop-motion animace jako didaktického prostředku ve výuce jedné ze skupin. Ve druhé fázi celého experimentu se skupiny žáků vyměnily a stop-motion animaci měla ve výuce začleněnou druhá skupina. Autorem vytvořené kvízy v Socrative? umožnily archivaci odpovědí žáků ve skupinách na otázky do souborů *.xlsx. Data v těchto souborech byla použita k vyhodnocení celého experimentu, a zároveň byla použita k sumativnímu hodnocení žáků za výukovou jednotku známkou. Výsledky této práce potvrzují, že začlenění stop-motion animace jako didaktického prostředku do edukačního procesu má pozitivní vliv na měřitelné výsledky žáků. K analýze efektivity zapojení žáků do výuky byly použity autorovy záznamy o aktivitě žáků ve výuce. Analýza těchto záznamů probíhala opět vždy v kontextu s provedeným začleněním stop-motion animace jako didaktického prostředku do výuky. Také výsledky analýzy těchto záznamů potvrdily intenzivnější aktivitu žáků během výuky se stop-motion animací.

Abstract:

This thesis was dedicated to analyzing the possibilities of using stop-motion animation as a didactic tool in teaching. The aim of the work was to design a suitable teaching unit and its subsequent verification in the educational process. The author managed to achieve this goal. The conclusions of this work answered the questions, what is the relationship between the use of stop-motion animation creation in teaching and the level of measurable learning results among pupils, whether the use of stop-motion animation creation in teaching is more effective for achieving more intensive involvement of pupils in teaching. For the needs of this work, the author proposed two separate teaching units, because a technique known as Factor Rotation was used to verify the outputs of the pedagogical experiment from teaching. The work methodology in each teaching unit was adapted to the verification of the use of stop-motion animation creation within the OV of two different groups of students of the second year of the SŠE majoring in Electrician. When designing the teaching units, the author had to respect the rotation of these groups in the OV classrooms. For this reason, the factor rotation procedure was slightly modified. The measurement of the initial state of the two groups of pupils took place not only at the beginning of the entire teaching unit, but also after the first measurement of the output state. A comparison of the measurable results of student groups in the context of the teaching method was also carried out. Two quizzes were created in Socrative? for this measurement. One quiz was aimed at testing pupils' knowledge of HW, the other was aimed at PZ. A quiz with identical questions was used for both groups of students to measure the entry and exit status. After examining the students' answers to these quizzes, the author of the thesis performed an analysis of the results. The measurement of input and output states always took place in the context of the inclusion of stop-motion animation as a didactic tool inthe teaching of one of the groups. In the second phase of the whole experiment, the groups of pupils changed, and the second group had stop-motion animation incorporated into their lessons. The quizzes created by the author in Socrative? enabled the archiving of student answers in groups to questions in *.xlsx files. The data in these files was used to evaluate the whole experiment, and at the same time it was used to summatively evaluate the students for the teaching unit with a grade. The results of this work confirm that the inclusion of stop-motion animation as a didactic tool in the educational process has a positive effect on measurable student results. The author's records of the pupils' activity in the lesson were used to analyze the effectiveness of the pupils' involvement in the lesson. The analysis of these records was again always in the context of the inclusion of stop-motion animation as a didactic tool in the teaching. The results of the analysis of these recordings also confirmed the more intense activity of the pupils during the lesson with stop-motion animation.
