The Human in the Clench of History (on the Material of Selected Historical Novels in the 19th-20th-centuries Slavonic Literatures)

Abstract:

Středem zájmu předkládané disertační práce je historický román na příkladu děl české, polské, ruské a srbské literatury. Časové a tematické rozpětí vymezujeme devatenáctým až dvacátým stoletím. Autoři se ve svých dílech zaměřují na vztahy rodinné, partnerské, ale i na vztahy ve společnosti. Jedinec je societou formován, což se přímo odráží v jeho životě a z tohoto vychází lidské jednání a přemýšlení, které si s sebou nese každá doba. Jádrem disertační práce je tedy pozice člověka v historickém románu, v němž se člověk jako hypotetický tvůrce dějin ocitá současně v jejich kleštích. Klíčovou roli zde hraje samotný autor díla, který, vycházeje ze svého života, zrcadlí své názory a postoje. S tím souvisí i pojetí domova, tedy v podstatě i vnímání náležitosti k jisté společenské a národní komunitě a kultuře. Autoři, jejichž díla byla pro analýzu zvolena, se každý svým individuálním způsobem ocitali v mezní situaci, kdy sami zápasili. Ve svých románech reflektovali svá osobní data a životní prožitky; materiálem se staly negativní zkušenosti a mnohdy traumatické chápání historie vlastního státu. Konkrétní způsob pojetí díla, tímto máme na mysli dobu, postavy, zápletky a prostředí, sloužilo buď k akcentaci, nebo překonávání osobních traumat spojených s historickými událostmi, ale zasazenými do jiné doby v minulosti extrapolací jako varování před pojetím neomezené moci.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the historical novel within several works of Czech, Polish, Russian and Serbian literature. The time and the thematic range moves in the Framework of the 19th – 20st centuries. Authors focus on family, partnership, but also on relationships in society. An individual is formed by society, which is directly reflected in their life, and which gives rise to their actions and thinking, peculiar to individual periods. The core of this dissertation is the position of man in historical novel in which man, while a hypothetical creator of history, finds themselves at its mercy. The key role in that is played by the author of a work themselves, as they reflect their opinions and attitudes based on their lives. Related to this is the concept of home, in essence the sense of belonging to a certain social and national community and culture. The authors, whose works were chosen as the material, each found themselves in a borderline situation in their own individual way, where they themselves struggled. The personal data and the life experiences were reflected in their novels; the negative experience and understandings of the history of one's own state became the material for their novels, with many of them perceiving history as trauma. The particular way of conception of the work, by which time, characters, plots and environment are meant, serves either to accentuate the traumas of history, or to overcome all associated with historical events which were, nonetheless, set in a different period in the past by means of extrapolation as a warning against the concept of unlimited power.
