Self-efficacy, test anxiety and school grades in older school-age children

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vztahy mezi self-efficacy, testovou úzkostí a školním prospěchem. Teoretická část je věnována vymezení jednotlivých komponent a popsáním teoretických východisek jejich vzájemných vztahů. Pro výzkumnou část byl s ohledem na povahu výzkumného cíle zvolen kvantitativní přístup. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 290 respondentů - žáků druhého stupně čtyř základních škol Moravskoslezského kraje. Selfefficacy byla měřena prostřednictvím dotazníku SEQ-C, testová úzkost prostřednictvím dotazníku FTAS, rysová úzkost prostřednictvím dotazníku SUDS a školní prospěch prostřednictvím self-report metody o výsledcích z vysvědčení. Součástí výzkumu bylo také sledování diferencí mezi těmito vztahy v závislosti na pohlaví respondentů, a identifikace nejvýznamnějších komponent jednotlivých proměnných ve vztahu ke školnímu prospěchu. Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly významnou souvislost mezi proměnnými. Dále byly nalezeny mezipohlavní rozdíly, přičemž u chlapců byly tyto korelace významnější. Nejvýznamnější komponentou ve vztahu ke školnímu prospěchu je komponenta akademická u proměnné self-efficacy a komponenta kognitivní obstrukce u proměnné testová úzkost.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis examines the relationships between self-efficacy, test anxiety, and school performance. The theoretical section is devoted to defining each component and describing the theoretical underpinnings of their interrelationships. For the research part, a quantitative approach was chosen. The research sample consisted of 290 respondents - second grade pupils of four primary schools in the Moravian-Silesian Region. Self-efficacy was measured by means of the SEQ-C questionnaire, test anxiety by means of the FTAS questionnaire, trait anxiety by means of the SUDS questionnaire and school grades by means of the self-report method based on report school card results. The research also included the observation of differences between these relationships depending on the gender of the respondents, and the identification of the most significant components of each variable in relation to school achievement. The results of the research showed a significant relationship between the variables. Furthermore, inter-gender differences were found, with the correlations being more significant for male respondents. The most significant component in relation to school performance was the academic component for the self-efficacy variable and the cognitive obstruction component for the test anxiety variable.
