Abstract:

Diplomova prace zachycuje vyvoj vzdelavani cernochu v USA od roku 1890 do roku 1970, ve spojitosti s dulezitymi soudnimi pripady Nejvyssího soudu. Temer cele jedno stoleti byla velkym problemem v americke spolenosti prave segregace. Ja jsem se zabyvala segregaci zejmena ve vzdelavani, kdy vedle sebe existovaly dva systemy bily a cerny, pricemz oba mely být rovnocenne, ale opak byl pravdou. Krome mnoha jinych, zahrnuje pripad Plessy v Ferguson, ktery uzakonil segregaci. Situace se zacala menit prave po rozhodnuti Nejvyssiho soudu v pripadu Brown v. Board of Education, ktery uzakonil, ze segregace ve vzdelavani neni pripustna a je nutno integrovat. Spolecnost tedy zacala vytvaret opatreni, ktera mela smerovat ke zruseni segregace. Cela prace je rozdelena do peti kapitol, ktere zahrnuji obdobi od roku 1890 do roku 1970. Prvni dve kapitoly zachycuji obdobi segregovanych, ale rovnocennych skol a pripady, ktere vedly k pripadu Brown. Treti kapitola rozebira vsech pet prípadu, ktere byly pozdeji spojeny do jednoho pripadu. Posledni dve kapitoly se venuji skutecne realizaci integrace a nekterých problemu, ktere nastaly prave v obdobi sedesatych a sedmdesatych let.

Abstract:

In this diploma thesis I have attempted to trace the development of the education of African Americans from 1890 to 1970 in the United States in connection with important decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court.I dealt with segregation within education, the actual existence of two types of schools black and white which were supposed to be equal but never were. Among many other decisions, the diploma thesis explores the Plessy v Fergusson decision that confirmed segregation. The situation initiated change after the Supreme Court decided the major desegregation case of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, which finally overruled Plessy, stating that the doctrine of separate but equal is not acceptable in education. Gradually, America began to consider desegregation methods. The diploma thesis is divided into five chapters covering the development of African American education in the United States of America from 1890 to1970. The first two chapters deal with the period of separate but equal doctrine and cases that led to Brown. Third chapter analyzes all five cases that were later compounded into Brown. The last two chapters deal with the era of the 1960s and 1970s, the actual implementation of Brown and the problems that occurred.
