Lost in language - documentary portrait

Abstract:

Přesto, že vietnamská minorita patří mezi největší národností menšiny v České republice, většinová společnost o ní má stále zkreslené představy. Jedním z důvodů uzavřenosti této skupiny je pravděpodobně i nízká jazyková vybavenost značné části, zejména starší, vietnamské populace a jejich úzce zaměřená vazba na práci a známé a příbuzné ve vlastní komunitě, jež jim příliš neumožňuje navazovat kontakty mimo vietnamskou menšinu. Ani vietnamská společnost u nás však není homogenní. Tvoří ji několik skupin, které se od sebe zásadně odlišují. Kromě výše zmíněné skupiny vietnamských imigrantů první generace, kteří do České republiky přišli zejména za lepším výdělkem již v produktivním věku, zde existuje generace druhá, potomci první generace, kteří se narodili v České republice, či do České republiky přicestovali do pěti let jejich věku. Třetí skupinu tvoří tzv. jedenapůltá generace, která je v současné době hojně zastoupena mezi dětmi a mladými dospělými. Jedná se o osoby, které se narodily ve Vietnamu, kde žily minimálně do svých šesti let, a které se však ještě v dětství přestěhovaly do České republiky, kde pokračovaly ve školní docházce. Právě pro tyto osoby přesun do České republiky, který nemohou samy ovlivnit, často znamená znatelný zásah do jejich života, sociálních vztahů a významně ovlivňuje jejich budoucnost. Tato práce se zabývá pocity vietnamských migrantů v České republice, jejich životy a změnou, kterou si prošli. Práce je zaměřena na pocit vykořenění, ztráty, hledání sama sebe, své budoucnosti a svého místa v nové společnosti. Snahou práce bylo nalézt tato témata a zpracovat je v koláži dokumentárních portrétů několika zástupců první a jedenapůlté generace Vietnamců. Téma dokumentárního portrétu je dále rozvíjeno ve vlastním edukativním projektu, který má za úkol bližší zprostředkování jedné z českých menšin majoritní dětské populaci. Výtvarná práce, filmová koláž, je pak zasazena do širšího socio-kulturně uměleckého kontextu, v němž je přiblížena vietnamská menšina, její struktura a historie v České republice, rozebrán dokumentární filmový formát a zmíněni i jiní umělci pracující s tématem vykořenění či filmaři věnující se vietnamskému motivu.

Abstract:

Despite the fact that the Vietnamese minority is one of the largest national minorities in the Czech Republic, the majority society has distorted ideas about it. Low linguistic capability is probably one of the reasons why this group of people remains still closed to the outer world. Especially older Vietnamese population remains tied to their work and family and friends within the Vietnamese population. They usually don´t seek many interactions outside of their comfort zone in the the Vietnamese minority. But the Vietnamese society isn´t homogeneous. It consists of several groups that differ fundamentally from each other. Apart from the group ementioned abowe (these are so called first-generation Vietnamese immigrants who came to the Czech Republic as adults), there are people of Vietnamese origin that were born in the Czech republic, or came here at very young age (up to 5 years of age). These are called the second-generation. And then there are people who belong to the first-and-half generation. They were born in Vietnam, where they lived for at least six years, but then, still as kids they came to the Czech Republic and continued sith the education here. These people were often taken from their society and friends to whom they felt the sense of belonging. This big change can affect their future lifes. This thesis deals with the feelings of Vietnamese migrants in the Czech Republic, with their lives and with the change they have gone through. The thesis is focused on the feeling of uprooting, loss, search for oneself, for future, and for special place in the new society. The aim of this diploma thesis is to find the metioned themes in a collage made out of documentary portraits of several representatives of the first and first-and-half generation of Vietnamese. The theme of the documentary portrait is further developed in an original educational project, which aims to introduce one of the Czech minorities to Czech children from the majority population. The film collage is then put into wider socio-cultural and artistic context. This includes information about the Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic, information about documentary filmmaking and about artists that are dealing with the theme of uprooting or filmmakers that are concerned about Vietnamese topics.
