Individual frequency of inner speech usage and seleced personal characteristics

Abstract:

Vnitřní řeč je obsáhlý a komplexní fenomén, týkající se každého z nás. Avšak už jeho definice je poněkud náročnější, vzhledem k tomu, že názory a náhledy na vnitřní řeč nejsou sjednocené. Lze ji charakterizovat např. jako specifický kognitivní útvar, často vnímán jako verbální forma myšlení, která není doprovázena zvuky. Bakalářská práce shrnuje teoretický základ tohoto fenoménu a obsahuje výzkum, ve kterém jsme si položili otázku, zdali existuje vztah mezi vybranými osobnostními charakteristikami a individuální frekvencí užívání vnitřní řeči. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 260 respondentů a data byla zjišťována pomocí dvou dotazníků - NEO pětifaktorového osobnostního inventáře (NEO FFI) a The Self-Talk Scale (STS). Výsledky poukazují na signifikantní vztahy mezi osobnostními charakteristikami neuroticismus, extraverze, přívětivost a svědomitost, nicméně na základě hodnoty Pearsonova korelační koeficientu se jedná o slabé asociace. Mezi frekvencí vnitřní řeči a osobnostními charakteristikami nebyly nalezeny silnější vztahy.

Abstract:

Inner speech is wide and complex phenomenon which is related to each of us. However, it is not easy to define inner speech because of many different existing concepts. It can be simply defined for example as a specific cognitive formation, often understood as a verbal thought which is not accompanied by sound. The bachelor thesis sums up theoretical base of this phenomenon and includes our research. In this research we tried to answer whether there is any relationship between selected personal characteristics and individual frequency of inner speech usage. In this research participated 260 respondents and data were obtained via two questionnaires - NEO Five - Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) and The Self-Talk Scale (STS). Results are pointing to significant relationships between neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness, nevertheless based on Pearson's correlation coefficient these associations are rather weak. So, we have not found any stronger relationships between frequency of inner speech and personal characteristics.
