Predictors of attachment hierarchy in emerging adulthood

Abstract:

Cílem práce je zmapovat vliv vybraných charakteristik na hierarchii citové vazby v období vynořující se dospělosti. Vybranými charakteristikami je vyhýbavost a úzkostnost vůči matce a otci, helicopter parenting a hyperprotektivita matky a otce, přítomnost partnerského vztahu a jeho délka. Sledován byl vliv těchto proměnných na preferenci primární vazbové osoby. Výzkumu se účastnilo 604 respondentů ve věku 19–26 let. Pro analýzy byla sesbírána data pomocí dotazníkové metody a za využití internetu. Mezi použité metody patřil dotazník hierarchie citové vazby WHOTO, dotazník ECR-RS měřící styl citové vazby, výpovědi měřící helicopter parenting a dotazník PBI k měření hyperprotektivity. Před použitím bylo u dotazníku WHOTO provedeno kognitivní interview. Logistická regrese prokázala, že vyhýbavosti vůči matce zvyšuje preferenci otce, nejlepšího kamaráda a partnera jako primární vazbové osoby oproti matce. Podobně také vyhýbavost k otci zvyšuje preferenci jiných osob oproti otci. Dále bylo zjištěno, že helicopter parenting matky zvyšuje její preferenci jako primární vazbové osoby oproti nejlepšímu kamarádovi a partnerovi. S nárůstem helicopter parenting otce roste preference otce oproti matce a preference partnera oproti matce jako primární vazbové osoby. Zároveň byl potvrzený vliv délky partnerského vztahu na preferenci partnera oproti matce. Vliv úzkostnosti a hyperprotektivity na volbu primární vazbové osoby se u matky ani otce nepotvrdil.

Abstract:

This study explores the influence of some characteristics to attachment hierarchy in emerging adulthood. These characteristics are avoidance and anxiety to mother and father, mother´s and father´s helicopter parenting and overprotection, relationship with romantic partner and it´s length. It was observed the influence of these variables on preference of primary attachment figure. The research sample consisted of 604 respondents aged 19–26 years. The data was collected through questionnaires by using the internet. Used methods were WHOTO for attachment hierarchy, ECR-RS for attachment, and five items measuring helicopter parenting and PBI for overprotection. Cognitive interview was done with WHOTO before using this method. Logistic regression showed that avoidance for mother raises preference for father, the best friend and romantic partner as primary attachment figure. The similar outcome is for avoidance for father which increases preference for other figures than for father. Mather´s helicopter parenting increases her preference as primary attachment figure before best friend and romantic partner. Preference for father as primary attachment figure increases before preference for mother with helicopter parenting of father. Father´s helicopter parenting also increases preference for romantic partner before mother. Results confirmed the influence of the length of romantic relationship to the preference of romantic partner before mother. The influence of anxiety and overprotection on preference primary attachment figure was not confirmed.
